"Full Walking Day 45. At the end of a 600 metre early afternoon climb towards the Chalet des Cortalets on the upper slopes of Pic Canigou we looked east, rubbed our eyes and gazed at the horizon. 1.54p.m. After almost 45 days and over 500 miles of walking, away to the east we could make out the faint line of the coast and the Mediterranean at last. Still 5 days of hard walking to go but we couldn't resist a hug and tear in the eye. In the evening from our vantage point at 2200 metres we could make out the lights of Perpignan, coastal resorts and even a lighthouse." - 8th August
