"Day 21 - arrived in Germ and everything on schedule. We have walked nearly 250 miles and climbed over 20,000 metres ( or Ben Nevis about 15 times!! ). The people we meet have constantly enriched our days - the 2 Basque huntsmen with their berets, horn, rifle and dogs trying to catch a fox, the super-fit young Frenchman walking the trail from East to West in 30 days and the cyclists pounding up the Col de Soulor in a local 120 mile bike race. In the gites ( hostels ) where we have stayed the welcome from the French wardens has been outstanding. We have also enjoyed the recurring company of others ( French, German, Swedish, American, British ) undertaking sections of the GR10 or, in one or two cases, the whole route like ourselves. Above all we would like to thank Yvonne Hoskin and Colin Joslin for their companionship and support during the first 18 days of the trek - their contribution to our wellbeing and success to date has been huge. One final bonus! The Tour de France passes close to our route on Sunday July 17th so we are taking a day off and arranging to be on the Col de Portet d'Aspet as the riders come past at about 12 noon. Watch out for us cheering!!" - 16th July
