Photos Week 8 - Le Boréon to Menton
The final days of walking were as spectacular as any we had encountered. The landscape was rocky with
numerous very steep climbs and scrambles across seemingly impenetrable ridges. There were numerous small
lakes and frequent close-up sightings of chamois and ibex. In the Vallée des Merveilles we visited the
5,000 year old closely guarded rock carvings. Day 42, the longest of the whole trek and potentially energy
sapping as there was nowhere to refill water bottles, took us in to Sospel with its Italianate architecture
and totally Mediterranean feel. A final long tiring day across the Alpine foothills next to the sea
brought us to journey's end and all the trappings of 21st century civilisation at Menton.
