Photos Week 4 - Refuge de la Leisse to Rifugio I Tre Alpini

For our rest day at the Col de la Vanoise deteriorating weather only allowed us a morning walk in the surrounding mountains. Even then we were astonished to find a complete white-out the next morning (July 10th!). We hastily re-arranged our route to descend to Pralognan and get below the snow line. The following day the weather cleared to give us magnificent conditions as we crossed the Col de Chavière (at 2700+m the highest point of the trail). Day 22 was, literally, a watershed day as we left behind the snow and cold of the Northern Alps to pass in to the drier warmer conditions of the Southern Alps. Our first day in the 'south' took us in to the Vallée Etroite - a part of Italy until post WW II frontier changes.
