Pete's Blog Alps 2007

Pete's Blog - Week 7(c)
Eight of us set out for St. Dalmas Valdebore ( 1290m ) the next day. We explored the quaint hamlet of Rimplas ( 1016m ) and its fort before reaching our gîte, les Marmottes, in St Dalmas de Valdeblore. Josh Wright and his girlfriend, PJ, joined us here so now we were ten! St. Dalmas is a very beautiful old town that has been lovingly restored to its original state. It also boasts an 11th century romanesque church with a 9th century crypt.
Our next stage to Le Boréon ( 1473m ) was to be a very long one but it was difficult to get to get an early start with such a large party! We had three cols to cross: Col de Veillos ( 2194m ), Col du Barn ( 2452m ) and Col de Salèse ( 2031m ). After over ten hours of walking the newcomers were very tired and the cold beers at the gîte du Boréon went down very well. Cont - 7d
