Pete's Blog Alps 2007

Pete's Blog - Week 2(a)
We had a warm and sunny descent into Samoens with a pleasant walk along the Giffre towards Salvagny.
The next day, however started wet for our walk up to the Refuge Alfred Wills ( 1808m ) near to the Lac D'Anterne. The rain helped to make the several large waterfalls we passed even more impressive.
We stayed for two nights at the very remote Alfred Wills refuge where the very relaxed ' gardien ', Dominic, looked after us. His homemade eau de vie made with local herbs ( genepi and achille ) helped us to sleep well each night!
We had to cross two high cols ( Anterne 2264m and Brévent 23368m) and Le Brévent summit 2526m the next day. We awoke to thick fog and snow. As we crossed the Col D' Anterne we met up with Sue Mobbs
( who is the friend of a close friend of Sue and Ivan and who was walking alone ) in the deep snow. She decided to tag along with us for the day as the route was going to be decidedly dodgy! The crossings turned out to be difficult but very exciting. Cont - 2b
