Pete's Blog Alps 2007

Pete's Blog - Week 3(a)
We had to make an early start from Chalet de Nant Borrant ( 1460m ) as we had climb to the Col de la Croix Du Bonhomme ( 2483m ) and then do an hour's exposed ridge walk along the Crête des Gittes. Trouble was that thunderstorms were forecast again for that afternoon. As we approached the col we caught sight of several boquetin on the cliff edge. When we reached the col we could see the herd browsing among the rocks. The walk along the ridge was sensational and well worth the early start.
Our next refuge was Plan Mya ( 1820m )  which used to be a high pasture cheese making chalet. We were in the heart of the Beaufort cheese making area where there are mobile milking parlours dotted around the high pastures but most of the cheese is now made in the valleys.
Our next target was the Col de Bresson ( 2469m ) which took us past the impressive Roselend dam
( hydro-electricity or 'white coal' is a big thing in the Alps now ). Cont - 3b
