Pete's Blog Alps 2007

Pete's Blog - Week 2(b)
We arrived at the Refuge de Bellachat ( 2151m ) still in fog. Next morning, however the weather had cleared and we awoke to a magnificent view of Mont Blanc, its glaciers and the Chamonix valley. We could even see people climbing the snow as they made for the summit. We then had a pleasant descent down to Les Houches where we met some Dutch people in a bar who had clìmbed Mont Blanc that morning.
It was fine the next day as we wound our way up to the Col de Tricot ( 2120m ) and past the Bionnassay glacier. It was quite a sight as we crossed a flimsy footbridge over  the melt water torrent. We then spent a comfortable night at the Chalets de Miage looking up at several glaciers on the Dome de Miage mountain.
We finished the week near Les Contamines where there are two lovely baroque churches, one of which
( Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge) is a popular pilgrimage place. We are all still going well!
