Pete's Blog - Week 1 ( with, exceptionally a few additions in italics from Ivan )
Another morning start with thundertorms and rain. Climbed our first 2,000m summit just above the Col des Mattes. Spent a lot of the day on or close to ridges with extensive all-round views. Encountered our first lying snow as we approached the Refuge de Chésery
Set out on day 4 in full gear with cold wind and fog. Luckily the clouds lifted and we enjoyed good views of the Dents du Midi. Walked all morning in Switzerland through green pastures with lots of cattle with bells. Met a lady who had found some vanilla orchids ( and picked them!! ). Once again the flowers are simply amazing.
