Days 20 - 23

After a beautiful sunrise on a crystal clear icy morning and a couple of hours of snowy icy walking we arrived in Lobuche where we bought hats at a lodge. On our continuing descent we traversed the windy 'wild west' settlement of Pheriche before stopping overnight in Lower Pangboche. Next day we passed by the huge Tengboche monastery ( sadly closed ) and descended steeply to cross the Imja Khola before rising to Sanasa and lunch. Here 2 young boys struggled to keep a hold of a recalcitrant horse. Back in Namche we visited familiar haunts and rediscovered a degree of warmth. The day trek from Namche to Lukla lasted over 8 hours and was extremely busy. Though we'd done it before the views walking the other way were quite different. Our final evening in Lukla was, perhaps, a little overshadowed by the prospect of taking off from 'the world's most dangerous airport' ( watch the video to see what you think! ). Despite a 3 hour wait and the very real possibility of a cancelled flight we left eventually and thoroughly enjoyed the '40 minute trip back to Kathmandu' - a fitting climax to a wonderful trek!
